The Masters of The Traditional Vyayam School

Swami Shankaratilakananda began learning Vyayam Yoga in 1976 in the classic way, next to his master, observing him without time limits or anxiety, just like an apprentice who impregnates himself with knowledge instead of following a particular method. Later he entered into contact with the master Dhirendra Brahmachari, with whom he would finish learning the necessary knowledge to conclude his training.

Within a few years, and after recovering from a serious bout of malaria which he caught on one of his long stays in the jungle in Bengal, India, and which almost took him to his deathbed, he began to teach his monastic students in a very simple form, 18 Sukha Vyayam or “Happy Vyayam” positions. But it wasn´t until 1994 that he structured the series and gave it an accessible form so that it could be learned by the men and women of today and making it more appropriate for the needs of a prevailing mind.
